A stainless steel AISI 316 connector kit composed of a stainless steel 5mm x 150cm cable.



This product has been designed to allow the connection of two separate anchors in a belay station, thus conforming to the backup principle.



This increases the safety of a belay anchor.



In particularly dangerous environments such as marine areas, it is absolutely imperative to use a dual-anchor system.



Although important in all situations, this is imperative in areas with aggressive atmospheric or environmental conditions.



This article is approximately twice the length of Art. 544.



The KIT is composed of the following articles:



A length of stainless steel AISI316 cable, O5mm and composed of 133 strands (right hand lay) : total length 150 cm.



This cable is very flexible. (The ends of the cable have been sealed to avoid fraying or injury to hands).



2 stainless steel clamps to fit 5mm cable.



1 stainless steel washer: external O= 40mm – central hole = O11mm - thickness S= 2.5mm.



Use:



Situation A:

-With a single existing anchor. First of all, place a second anchor above the first, at a maximum distance of 60cm and using a stainless steel bolt (such as art.157).

-Substitute the bolt’s washer with the large stainless steel washer supplied in the kit. Place the anchor, tightening to the appropriate level of torque.



-Take the metal cable and pass one end through the lower anchor.

-Pull it up to the newly-placed anchor. Loosen the nut on this anchor until it is possible to insert the cable behind the washer, close to the rock, and pull this end around 10cm towards the lower bolt to create a loop.



-Now take the two clamps and fix the cable in place as below: the two ends of the cable loop should protrude about 10cm.

-The bridge of the first clamp must be placed on the middle part of the cable, equidistant from the two ends.

-Insert the u-clamp around both ends and the other section of cable (held in place by the bridge) and insert this into the clamp’s bridge.

-In effect this draws the “three cables” into one. Loosen the nuts on the end of the saddle without fixing them in place with the key.

-Pull the cable end in the opposite direction as hard as possible, making sure that the clamp is as close as possible to the outside of the large washer (thus avoiding any fraying).



-At this point, tighten the nuts of the first clamp, keeping both sides even.



-Repeat the process for the second clamp.

-Finally, tighten the nut on the anchor with the large washer, keeping both sides even.

-The connection cable is now in place, increasing the safety of the anchor as a whole.



Situation B:

-With a pre-existing but unconnected second anchor (in addition to the abseil anchor).

-The usage is the same as "Situation A", but the loop of the cable must be inserted through both hangers.

-In this situation the large washer is not required and can be conserved for future use.



Important Information:

-This system is a good compromise to improve a pre-existing anchor.

-IT DOES NOT replace the need to place complete factory-made belay systems, such as the RAUMER products in this category.

-This system is a "makeshift” alternative and should not represent the norm.

-In fact it is NOT recommended to hang directly from the cable loop using a sling or a carabiner.

-This must be avoided in all cases!



This connection system has been designed to guarantee good tensile strength whilst being cost-effective, light, durable and easy to place. It is strongly recommended in appropriate cases.
